Progress Over Perfection
Therapy Center
Change your relationship with substances — or rediscover who you are — one meaningful step at a time. Support that meets you exactly where you are, with compassion, honesty, and zero judgment.
Welcome to Your Path to Mental Wellness
At Progress Over Perfection, I believe everyone has the capacity for real change and transformation. Sometimes we just need a steady, compassionate hand to help guide the way forward.
Hi, I’m Sam DeFilippo, LPC, CAADC, NCC, a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Addictions Counselor in Pennsylvania. I'm definitely not a "blank slate" therapist, and pride myself on building authentic, trusting, and supportive connections with my clients.
I provide compassionate, harm-reduction therapy that meets you where you’re at, whether you're struggling with your relationship to substances, working toward moderation or sobriety, navigating anxiety, self-esteem, identity questions, relationships, or life transitions (especially teens and young adults 16+).
My approach is trauma-informed and focused on progress, not perfection. I show up as a genuine person: authentic, supportive, and direct. I don't pretend to have all the answers, and I view myself as your equal, not as your superior. In our sessions, you’ll feel truly seen and heard as we work together to celebrate small wins and create meaningful, lasting change.
Change isn’t always easy — but with the right support, progress becomes possible.
Our Therapy Sessions
I offer one-on-one therapy sessions tailored to your needs and schedule.
30-Minute Sessions
Perfect for focused check-ins, quick progress reviews, or when you prefer more frequent but shorter support. These sessions are ideal if you want consistent momentum without a full session.
60-Minute Sessions
Our standard full-length sessions that allow time for deeper exploration, reflection, and meaningful therapeutic work. Most clients find this length gives the space needed to make real progress.
All sessions are available via Telehealth for all Pennsylvania Residents.

Progress, Not Perfection
No shame and no unrealistic expectations. We define success together and celebrate every small but meaningful step you make, because real change happens through progress, not perfection.
